CERTIFIED GLUTEN-FREE WHOLE BAKERS WEIGHS IN ON CHICAGO TRIBUNE FOOD ALLERGY INVESTIGATION

Founder and Celiac Diagnosed Patty Stewart Relates First Hand to the Problem with Mislabeled Gluten-Free Products

CHICAGO – Patty Stewart, founder of Whole Bakers, a GFCO (Gluten Free Certification Organization) certified gluten-free and kosher-certified specialty baked goods company, has first hand knowledge and feedback on the recent Chicago Tribune investigation on gluten-free products. Uncovered were numerous reports of mislabeling and poor manufacturing practices of gluten-free foods in various health food stores. Stewart, who has Celiac disease, was heartbroken to hear about the latest situation. Whole Bakers is dedicated to giving 100% assurance that all products are certified gluten-free.

“As a Celiac, I saw this issue coming as I have struggled with purchasing faulty gluten-free products for some time,” said Stewart. “There needs to be better regulation in the system and I am happy to see that the matter is finally being dealt with.”

All of the baked goods from Whole Bakers are certified gluten-free by GFCO. The GFCO inspects products for gluten as well as provides an independent service to supervise gluten-free food production according to a consistent, defined and science-based standard. This service is confirmed by field inspections in order to achieve heightened consumer confidence and safety. This way, those with Celiac or gluten/wheat allergies can enjoy freshly baked cookies without the worry of becoming ill. Stewart hopes that like Whole Bakers, larger corporations will follow her example and make sure that all products are certified gluten-free for the well being of the consumers.

To ensure that all Whole Bakers products are created in a gluten-free environment, Stewart partnered with PacMoore, a privately held kosher certified and organic food packaging company, to deliver the finest gluten-free baked goods. PacMoore built Whole Bakers a new gluten-free bakery in Hammond, Indiana to ensure that Whole Bakers products are not only certified gluten-free, but also kosher certified as well. PacMoore standards are set by HACCP, the American Institute of Baking (AIB) and the Grocery Manufacturer Association (GMA).
